We are hosted by the National Oceanography Centre (NOC), located in the Joseph Proudman Building on the University of Liverpool campus.

We are not open to the public. You must have a pre-arranged appointment with a member of staff before you will be allowed to enter the building.

Road

Parking

Visitor parking is available on Brownlow Street immediately in front of the Joseph Proudman Building. Charges operate at an hourly rate, payable on exit.

From M62

  1. At the end of the motorway, continue straight onto Bowring Park Road (A5080). Follow the signs for the City Centre.
  2. Keep in the middle lanes, at the traffic signals continue forward, signposted City Centre, Birkenhead and Wallasey.
  3. At the traffic signals continue forward onto the A5047, signposted City Centre.
  4. Keep in the left-hand lane then bear left onto Towersland Street (one way) then immediately bear right onto West Derby Street, signposted Birkenhead, Wallasey and City Centre.
  5. Go straight on at the next traffic signals, keep in the left-hand lane.
  6. Continue on West Derby Street passing the Liverpool University Dental Hospital to your right.
  7. Immediately after the traffic signals (no right turn), turn left into Brownlow Street. We are in the glass-fronted building on your right.

From M53

  1. At the end of the motorway continue through the tunnel (toll).
  2. On leaving the tunnel, get into middle lane (signposted City Centre).
  3. Continue round to left. Merge with A59 and stay in left lane.
  4. Go straight through the next three sets of traffic signals, staying in left-hand lane lane.
  5. Drive past John Moores University. At next traffic signals, turn left. Stay in right-hand lane.
  6. At next traffic signals, turn right into Norton Street. Drive past the National Express building on your right.
  7. At the next traffic signals, turn left into Pembroke Place.
  8. Continue along Pembroke Place/Pembroke Road until you pass the School of Tropical Medicine to your right.
  9. Turn immediately right, just before the traffic signals, into Brownlow Street. We are in the glass-fronted building on your right.

Rail

We are about fifteen minutes walk from Lime Street station.

  1. From the station, take the Lord Nelson Street exit (to the right). Walk past the taxi rank and turn right into Lord Nelson Street.
  2. Continue along Lord Nelson Street to the T junction and turn left into Seymour Street.
  3. At the crossroads intersection turn right into Pembroke Place.
  4. Continue along Pembroke Place/Pembroke Road until you pass the School of Tropical Medicine on your right.
  5. Turn right into Brownlow Street. We are in the glass-fronted building on your right.

Coach

We are about ten minutes walk from the National Express coach station in Norton Street.

  1. On disembarking, walk through the National Express building, taking a left past the ticket offices. On exiting the building, turn right. A Liverpool John Moores University building should be opposite.
  2. At the next set of traffic signals turn left. Walk past some bus stops.
  3. Continue along Pembroke Place/Pembroke Road until you pass the School of Tropical Medicine on your right.
  4. Turn right into Brownlow Street. We are in the glass-fronted building on your right.
