BODC wishes to welcome Professor Andrew Willmott as the new Director of our host laboratory, the Proudman Oceanographic Laboratory (POL) (now part of the National Oceanography Centre (NOC) as of April 2010). He started on 01 July 2005 and we are looking forward to working with him.

Professor Willmott was previously Professor of Applied Mathematics and Head of the School of Computing and Mathematics at Keele University, and Director of the Keele Centre for Wave Dynamics.

We thank Professor Ed Hill, the former Director of POL, for his support during the past six years and wish him the very best for the future.

Professor Hill is now the Director of the National Oceanography Centre, Southampton (formerly the Southampton Oceanography Centre). This is a world-class centre of excellence devoted to research, teaching and technological developments in ocean and earth science. We hope to continue to work with Professor Hill and to further develop our relationships with the centre.
