BODC and the British Atmospheric Data Centre (BADC), the NERC designated data centres for oceanographic and atmospheric data, will be undertaking the data management from the UK Surface Ocean - Lower Atmosphere Study (UK SOLAS). This collaboration will be known as the UK SOLAS Data Centre (UKSDC).

Gwen Moncoiff, the BODC coordinator, will be responsible for the marine data and Charles Kilburn, the BADC coordinator, will manage the atmospheric data. They will work closely with the UK SOLAS scientists and will be in charge of the quality control, integration and long-term stewardship of data gathered during the project.

The aim of UK SOLAS is to investigate the interactions between the atmosphere and the oceans, focusing on chemical exchanges that affect both ocean productivity and atmospheric composition and climate.

It is a £10.3 million programme funded by NERC and brings together oceanographers, atmospheric chemists and modellers. The programme provides the main UK science contribution to the international SOLAS initiative.
