BODC Web Services
16 August 2006
We announce the launch of our Web Services which open a window to the information and data holdings at BODC.
Web Services distribute information across the internet in such a way that users have complete control over how and when information is processed. This flexibility is made possible by the provision of computational methods that can be incorporated into software systems.
Our Web Services can be run on any platform, using open source software packages. Some experience of software development is required for implementation, although user-friendly interfaces can be created if required.
Available Web Services
Our current Web Services may be used to help synchronise data management systems. They include
- NERC DataGrid vocabulary server — Allows access to standard terminology for oceanographic metadata.
- Marsden Square translator service — Converts lists of Marsden Square numbers into spatial coordinates.
In keeping with our strategy to widen access to our holdings and information, more services will be made available in the future.
