Online delivery
The ‘self service’ tools provided below allow you to retrieve data directly from our web site. Data are provided in a variety of formats and are available for you to download or, in the case of large requests/files, collect from our ftp site. Clear instructions will be provided whatever the method of supply.
User registration
You may be required to register as a ‘BODC web user’ prior to accessing some of the data. This is an important, yet quick and easy, process. The information you provide will enable us to inform you of the progress of your request and incorporate your details into your data licence agreement.
Online data
- All data series
Access to all data held in the National Oceanographic Database (NODB). It includes physical, geophysical, chemical and biological measurements from the sea, land and air. - Argo floats
Access to temperature and salinity profiles returned from the autonomous Argo floats deployed by the UK or in the Southern Ocean. - CTD and underway data (Atlantic
Meridional Transect)
CTD data, surface underway oceanographic and meteorological measurements, carried out whilst the ship is underway from all Atlantic Meridional Transect (AMT) cruises. - Gridded bathymetry data
(General Bathymetric Chart of the Oceans)
Access to GEBCO's gridded bathymetric data sets, the GEBCO One Minute Grid and GEBCO_08 grid. Opt to download the complete grid file(s) or data for a user-defined area in netCDF form. - UK Tide Gauge Network — National Tidal
and Sea Level Facility (NTSLF)
Annual data files (15 minute values and residuals, extremes, surges, and monthly means) to 2007 and monthly files (3 months delayed) for 2008. Data for the latest three months are available by online request (charges may apply). - Historical UK tide gauge data — scanned charts and ledgers
A number of years worth of historical UK tide gauge data, the earliest dating back to 1870, from eight sites around the UK are available in the form of scanned images of tide gauge charts and ledgers for viewing online/download. - International sea level data (Global Sea Level Observing System/World Ocean Circulation Experiment/Climate Variability and Predictability)
- Numerical model data
Access to the numerical model data held by BODC. Model data originating from a variety of projects and organisations will be made available for online retrieval. - OPeNDAP/DODS server
Access to the World Ocean Circulation Experiment sea level data through the OPenDAP protocol. - Historical bottom pressure recorder data
