This index provides access to all data series held in our National Oceanographic Database (NODB), a collection of marine data sets maintained by BODC, originating from a wide range of organisations. Parameter categories include, for example

• Acoustics
• Bathymetry and topography
• Currents — horizontal and vertical velocity, Lagrangian currents and water transport rates
• Meteorology — Radiosonde, Met. stations and data buoys
• Optical properties — pigments, turbidity, irradiance
• Sea level
• Water column temperature and salinity
• Water column chemistry — nutrients, carbons, oxygen
• Waves — statistics and spectra

Currently, the NODB index includes 85847 data series from 148 different organisations.

An interactive map is provided below to enable you to assess the NODB data holdings before entering our data request area. Within our data request area you will be able to build your search, select data series, modify your selection and opt to receive the data as BODC netCDF, ASCII or Ocean Data View (ODV) format before adding data to your basket. After checkout, the data you selected will be auto-prepared and made available for you to download.

The interactive map

The interactive map displays all data series within the NODB. Most data are available immediately, some may require that we negotiate their release and others are currently restricted for the use by the originator and/or to a project.

The interactive map displays data series which

• are available immediately to everyone
• are available immediately for academic purposes
• are restricted to the originator and/or project for a limited time or will require negotiation before their release

 

Map tools
		Zoom in		Zoom into an area on the map, by either Left clicking the mouse on a single point on the map. A new map is displayed, zoomed in and centred on the chosen point. Clicking and dragging a rectangular box around the area you're interested in. A new map with a larger scale will be displayed.
		Zoom out		Click or drag a rectangle on the map to zoom out.
		Pan		Click on the map, drag and drop the cursor to pan to another part of the map that is outside the current view.
		Zoom to full extent		Zoom out to the full geographic extent of the map.
		Zoom to previous extent		Zoom to the previous geographic extent of the map.
		Toggle dms format		Toggle the display of the cursor position between degrees minutes and seconds and decimal degrees.
