GEOTRACES
BODC's role
In 2008, BODC was chosen to host the GEOTRACES International Data Assembly Centre (GDAC), which will provide a central point for all GEOTRACES data. The aim is to assemble a high-quality, well-documented data set, thereby guaranteeing core data are accessible and of value to the marine community beyond the lifetime of the programme.
Global data sets will be created for all key parameters and mapped to BODC ontology allowing participants to search and access information related to data collections. The GDAC will work closely with other national data centres and will follow the SeaDataNet protocols.
The GDAC is funded jointly by the US National Science Foundation (NSF) and the UK Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) and is promoted and sponsored by the Scientific Committee on Oceanic Research (SCOR).
