UK Surface Ocean - Lower Atmosphere Study (UK SOLAS)
Project 10
The role of bacterioneuston in determining trace gas exchange rates
Principal Investigator — Colin Murrell, Department of Biological Sciences, University of Warwick.
Objectives
- To determine the community structure of the bacterioneuston
- To investigate the effect of microbial populations on trace gas exchange rates
Activities
Fieldwork has included participation in three research cruises (including D313 and D320) and sampling from Newcastle coastal waters and from the PML L4 station. The main observations included
- Trace gas concentrations
- Bacterial DNA
