UK Surface Ocean - Lower Atmosphere Study (UK SOLAS)
Project 13
The Deep Ocean Gas Exchange Experiment (DOGEE)
Principal Investigator — Rob Upstill-Goddard, School of Marine Science and Technology, University of Newcastle upon Tyne.
Objectives
- To study fundamental controls of air-sea gas exchange
Activities
Two deep ocean research cruises (D313 and D320) included Lagrangian experiments using dual tracer releases. Measurements included
- Tracer measurements
- Whitecap coverage, wave breaking and bubble production
- Wind speed and humidity
- IR surface temperature, downwelling longwave and shortwave radiation
- Air-sea fluxes of carbon dioxide, sensible and latent heat and momentum
