UK Surface Ocean - Lower Atmosphere Study (UK SOLAS)
Project 6
Ecological controls on fluxes of dimethyl sulphide (DMS) to the atmosphere
Principal Investigator — David Green, Scottish Association for Marine Science (SAMS).
Objectives
- To examine the interactions between algae and bacteria at the marine surface
- To determine how these interactions influence the flux of DMS to the atmosphere
Activities
- The study has used model development alongside laboratory experiments on cultivated organisms such as bacterial isolates from phytoplankton cultures
