SeaDataNet

01 September 2006
BODC is participating in the SeaDataNet project, which brings together a group of 49 major institutes and marine data centres from 35 countries throughout the EU and Mediterranean region. This EU funded project started in April 2006 and will have a lifetime of five years. It has an allocated budget of €9 million.
Its aim is to develop a system which provides transparent access to marine data sets and data products from 36 countries in and around Europe.
To achieve this aim it will construct a standardised, distributed system for managing the large and diverse data sets collected by oceanographic fleets and the new automated observation systems.
BODC will make considerable contributions to
- Marine data set directory enhancement and interconnection
- Standards specifications
- Technical development of the interoperable system
