AMT6 phytoplankton pigment absoption
Originator's Protocol for Data Acquisition and Analysis
This data originates from analyses on CTD rosette bottles from 17 casts and 5 samples collected from the ship's non-toxic supply.
Sub-samples were taken at P-E experimental depths from 16 stations. Between 500 and 200ml of seawater was filtered onto GF/F filters, which were then frozen at -80 o C. Light absorption by phytoplankton was measured on a 600 BU Beckman spectrophotometer at IIM.

BODC Data Processing Procedures
Data were submitted in two Excel spreadsheets and the file was saved in the BODC archive with reference PML020111. The data were supplied with the following metadata; Station, CTD, date and depth for CTD samples and Station, date and time for underway samples. The metadata were compared to the database - there was one discrepany. The depths given for CTD33 were from CTD33 (50m) and CTD34 (7 and 18m).
Date were provided for the wavelength range 400-700 nm at a resolution of 1nm.
The data were assigned parameter codes defined in BODC parameter dictionary. No unit conversions were necessary.
Data were loaded into BODC's database using established BODC data banking procedures.
A parameter mapping table is provided below;
Originator's Parameter | Units | Description | BODC Parameter Code | Units | Comments |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
aph wavelength 'xxx' | m -1 | Light absorbance (xxx nm wavelength) by the suspended particulate material >GF/F [pigment phase] by filtration and spectrophotometry on residue before and after methanol pigment extraction and differencing of the measurements | PIGAxxxA | m -1 | - |
