Originator's protocol

The RV Poseidon cruise, PO300_2 represents a cruise undertaken as part of the Extended Ellet Line project. The cruise travelled between Glasgow and Ullapool from the 19th July 2003 to 26th July 2003 and then back from the 26th July 2003 to 6th August 2003.

Water samples were collected from water bottles on the CTD rossette. Salinity was measured on a Guidline bench salinometer. In total 27 stations were sampled for salinity over the course of the cruise. Although there were a total of 82 CTD casts performed on the cruise only 34 were performed on the Ellet Line.

BODC processing

The data were provided to BODC in the form of a pdf document. The values contained within the document were loaded to Oracle following BODC data processing guidelines.

BODC parameter codes are used to map any variable measured. A code was selected that involved no conversion of the data supplied and can be seen below.

B Beginning of CTD Down/Up Cast
C Taxonomic flag for confer (cf.)
D Thermometric depth
E End of CTD Down/Up Cast
H Extrapolated value
I Taxonomic flag for single species (sp.)
K Improbable value - unknown quality control source
L Improbable value - originator's quality control
M Improbable value - BODC quality control
N Null value
O Improbable value - user quality control
P Trace/calm
