Port of departureAberdeen, United Kingdom
Port of returnAberdeen, United Kingdom
PurposeResearch
ObjectivesThe objective of this cruise was to participate in the JONSDAP expedition by:
(1) Recovery of instruments laid on cruise CH4A/76 to measure variations in tidal height at five stations and currents at two of these stations between NE Scotland and the Norwegian coast. One of the two current meter rigs was recovered, the other being lost following an encounter with a fishing vessel. All five tide gauges were successfully recovered.
(2) Work an E-W CTD section along 59° 20 min N between the northern tip of the Orkneys and the Norwegian coast. Accomplished.
(3) Measure surface temperature salinity using a continuous sampling unit along the CTD section. Accomplished.
