Wave direction; Salinity of the water column; Horizontal velocity of the water column (currents); Temperature of the water column; Wave height and period statistics

Oceanographic observations have been performed at about 10 light vessels since 1931. All vessels were withdrawn during the seventies. Drogden lighthouse in the Sound was built in 1937 and is still in function. Every morning at 800 MET samples of water from the surface to the bottom (5 m's depth interval) have been taken. The temperature is measured. The sea water density is determined by an areometer and the salinity calculated from temperature and density. The surface current has been estimated visually and occasionally controlled by means of a floating log and a stop-watch. From 1931-1960 observed six times a day and from 1962 eight times a day. Visual estimates of wave direction, characteristic height and period have been made with the same frequency as the surface current.
