Kattegat, Belt Sea and Sound, Western Baltic Proper, Skagerrak and eastern North Sea

Observations
Parameters

Ammonium and ammonia concentration parameters in water bodies; Nutrient concentrations in sediment pore waters; Nitrate concentration parameters in the water column; Nitrite concentration parameters in the water column; Phosphate concentration parameters in the water column; Salinity of the water column; Silicate concentration parameters in the water column; Dissolved inorganic nitrogen concentration in the water column; Temperature of the water column; Nitrification rate in the water column

Description
Summary

The nutrients NO3, NO2, NH4, PO4, SiO4, Total-N and Total-P have been measured at standard depths together with profiles of salinity and temperature at about 25 stations in the Sound, Kattegat, Belt Sea and western Baltic Proper 6-12 times a year since 1975. Since 1982 about 45 stations in the Skagerrak and eastern North Sea have been included 1-2 times a year. Deemed from participation of the laboratory in national and international intercalibrations, the quality of the data is high. The time series have shown increasing concentrations of especially nitrate, due to increasing loss by run off from the agriculture. Silicate is decreasing, probably due to increasing production and sedimentation of diatom algae.
