Description
Summary

The objective of the investigations carried out in 1983-85 was to determine the heavy metal concentrations in the environment and the biocenosis of the southern Baltic. The concentrations of the heavy metals were determined in sea water, bottom sediments, plankton and the following fish: cod, herring, sprat and flatfish. Samples were taken 2-4 times a year at 10-40 stations from the net of 100 sampling stations covering the whole Polish economic zone of the Baltic Sea. The sea water for analyses was taken from the surface and 1m below the surface. The sediment samples were taken by means of the bottom grab. Plankton was sampled by means of Bongo net hauls. The methods used for heavy metal determination were checked during the international ICES intercalibration (1983). Data presented in tabular and graphic form include results obtained from around 350 sampling sites.
