Description
Summary

The JEEP project was funded by the EC as part of its Marine Science and Technology Programme. It focused on the macrobiological processes that influence the fate of organic matter in the estuaries Elbe, Ems, Westerschelde, Somme, Gironde, Shannon and Tagus. The biological communities in these estuaries have been described and compared. Major macrobiological processes have been quantified: bacterial production, primary production, zooplankton energy flow and macrofauna dynamics. Hydrodynamical and ecological models have been developed.
