Description
Summary

The Department of Oceanography has undertaken extensive observations in the SE Kattegat from 1981-1985. The area receives a large supply of nitrogen from a number of rivers, discharging in the Laholm bay and the Skalderviken. Thin deep-water layers and restricted water exchange make the area extremely sensitive to oxygen depletion. A main goal was to map the oxygen and nutrient conditions in time and space, and to determine the relation between local nitrogen supply, nitrogen uptake and deep-water oxygen consumption. In March 1985 an intensive five day interdisciplinary experiment was carried out. The measurements were carried out with two ships. R/V Argos was anchored at a central position deep enough to ensure high salinity water near the bottom. Hydrographic casts including CTD were made every 3 hours. R/V Svanic from the Institute of Oceanography, covered the investigation area. Six recording current meters were anchored at the anchor station.
