Description
Summary

The data set comprises hourly values of sea surface elevation and atmospheric pressure, which hare been collected since 1959. The float and stilling well gauge together with Munro chart recorder is land mounted and is located very close to Meek Channel. A heater is located next to the stilling well to enable the gauge to operate in icy conditions. In 1991 a pressure gauge transducer and data collection platform were installed. The new gauge also records water temperature and barometric pressure. Data are logged on a Seadata logger and transmitted back to the UK via a computer link between BAS at Faraday and BAS, Cambridge. Faraday Base is a WMO synoptic reporting station and measures all the standard meteorological parameters.
