Concentrations of dissolved Cu, Mn and Zn were recorded together with salinity, suspended particle load, dissolved oxygen and pH, in twenty-two transects of the Tamar estuary, south west England, carried out between 1976 and 1985. Fourteen surveys were carried out between October 1976 and February 1981 under various environmental conditions and at various times relative to the semidiurnal tide. Sampling was most frequent during 1977 when approximately monthly sampling was carried out. Two sets of four transects were carried out in the summer of 1984 and the winter of 1985. Water was pumped from a depth of 0.5m using a submersible (Flygt B2040) centrifugal pump through a constant levelled reservoir which held the detecting sensors for the determination of salinity, chloride ion, temperature, suspended particle load, dissolved oxygen and pH. A subsidiary flow was used to obtain samples for metal analysis.
