Description
Summary

Seabirds are important components of marine ecosystem and can be used for monitoring the condition of the marine waters. The spatial and temporal distribution of Seaducks on the Belgian continental shelf was studied by the IN since 1986. Since 1992, this study was extended with counts of all seabirds. This project resulted in two extensive datasets; one consisting of aerial counts of Seaducks along the Belgian coast and the other consisting of regular counts of seabirds from research vessels and ferries. Furthermore, during winter the number of beached birds is monitored on a regular basis. This dataset contains counts of beached birds and the proportion of oiled birds found along fixed routes along the Belgian coast.
