GEBCO's aim is to provide the most authoritative, publicly-available bathymetry for the world's oceans. It operates under the joint auspices of the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) and the International Hydrographic Organization (IHO).

GEBCO's bathymetric data sets comprise of global gridded bathymetric data sets and a global set of digital bathymetric contours. The data sets are maintained and updated on behalf of GEBCO at BODC.

GEBCO's grids are available to download from the internet.

Seabed 2030 is a collaborative project between the Nippon Foundation of Japan and GEBCO. It aims to bring together all available bathymetric data to produce the definitive map of the world ocean floor by 2030 and make it available to all. BODC is acting as the Global Data Center for the project.
