| Objectives and Narrative |
The objective of the cruise was to trial the Autosub3 vehicle and its associated systems prior to going to the Antarctic to run missions under a glacier in January/February 2009.
The Terschelling sailed from Plymouth on the evening of the 20th June 2008 and headed for the Scilly Isles. The ship anchored between St Martins and Tresco to wait for weather to abate. Finally sailed for the work area on the evening of the 22nd. Due to poor weather conditions the trials area was moved further south and west. The first missions were conducted in the vicinity of 47 15N 10 45W. The final mission was in the vicinity of 48 10N 9 30W During the cruise 4 missions were completed a short test mission, two long range missions and a mission up the continental slope. The ship made for Plymouth at the completion of the final mission, docking on the afternoon of the 30th. No scientific data was collected during this cruise. |
