Quality assessment

All data have been compared with the current Harmonic Constants library, and residuals checked. Records have been visually inspected for spikes, datum shifts and timing errors.
Where there are problems with the primary channel, data may be available from the backup channel. Please contact enquiries@bodc.ac.uk for more information.
From May to June 1981, the backup Ott gauge (ASLVZZ01) was used. In June 1981 the Munro gauge (ASLVZZ02) was operational. There is a gap in the file where the gauge was changed.
In June 1990, the site was refurbished and the float gauge (ASLVZZ02) was removed. The site became operational again in September 1990 with a new bubbler gauge (ASLVBG02) installed. There is a break in the annual file when the instrument changes.
Up to February 2002, channel 2 was used as the primary channel and channel 1 was the secondary (backup) channel. In February 2002, after a visit was made by engineers to the site, channel 1 became the primary channel and channel 2 became the secondary (backup) channel.
The 2002 annual file consists of output from the old primary channel (channel 2) for January and output from the new primary channel (channel 1) for the period February to December. There is a gap in the file where the channels change.
February 2003 - File output has been altered so that all values fall on the quarter hour and gaps are filled in with null values, marked with an 'N' flag.
March 2003 - Residuals (observed minus predicted sea level values, measured in metres) now included in the file output.
April 2004 - There was a fire in the building causing minor damage to the equipment, but major damage to the building.
December 2005 - A temporary channel was installed, until new steelwork has been completed.
July 2006 - Second bubbler gauge and mid tide gauge reconnected.
On 16/09/2011 a new data logger was installed. Tests were carried out to ensure the logger was functioning correctly, resulting in some data being lost.
November 2012 - The file output has been altered to reflect the Contributor name change from Proudman Oceanographic Laboratory to National Oceanography Centre, Liverpool. Also, the Parameter code has been improved and now uses a controlled vocabulary.
