Long name | FRV Scotia (748S) cruise 0910S |

Short name | 0910S |
Objectives and Narrative |
Objectives
1. To undertake bathymetric and ground-truthing survey work in connection with offshore wet renewables development located to the northwest of Lewis. Contingency survey work is included, undertaking the same survey work inside the Pentland Firth and along the north coast of mainland Scotland. 2. To undertake bathymetric and ground-truthing survey work in connection with the offshore special protected area at Fair Isle. Procedure Scotia will depart from Aberdeen Harbour at 08:30 (GMT) on 21 July. The nature of the work will be heavily dependant on the prevailing weather conditions encountered. The proposed survey work for northwest Lewis and Fair Isle is very similar to the work undertaken in the Pentland Firth during 2009. The bathymetric survey work will involve a series of transects collecting swathe and RoxAnn data, the deployment of the TV drop frame and, where practical, the deployment of a day grab. On arrival at the survey sites, two tide gauges will be deployed for the full duration of each survey. Sound velocity profiles will be recorded on a daily basis and deployment of the day grab will be considered after each TV tow. The sites outside northwest Lewis and Fair Isle will be surveyed in the same manner as above. Scotia will complete a half landing at Ullapool on 30 July to exchange scientific staff. On completion of the survey work Scotia will return to unload at Aberdeen Harbour on 10 August. |
