Short name | 17X/12 |
Objectives and Narrative |
Aims
1. Service SmartBuoys at Warp and West Gabbard. 2. Service SmartBuoy at Dowsing. 3. Multibeam EAOW AWAC 4.1 and 3.1. 4. Service FerryBox and fit Passive sampler unit. Narrative The FerryBox was stripped and cleaned and the new passive sampling unit partially installed prior to sailing. A faulty valve was discovered, which was probably the cause of the unpredictable "washing/half full" errors on several cruises recently. The Endeavour sailed at 00:10 19/10/2012 and steamed overnight to the Warp. A CTD rosette and water samples were collected before breakfast. The Warp SmartBuoy was recovered and a new buoy deployed, followed by a CTD rosette. The ship departed at approx 10:30 for the West Gabbard, via the Knock John Channel (low spring tides prevented use of the normal "Barrow" route). The SmartBuoy at West Gabbard was serviced without incident, before moving north to multibeam two sites (AWAC 3.1 and 4.1) for EAOW. The multibeam was achieved in good time with 7 lines at each site covering approx 800m x 100m. Moving on to the Dowsing SmartBuoy and arriving at 08:30 20/10/12, the water samples were collected and SmartBuoy was serviced. The SmartBuoy was fitted with a full suite of anti-fouling wipers on optical sensors to enable a three month deployment. As the work was all completed in good time, an extra station was added to extend the multibeam survey at AWAC 2.2. We docked in Lowestoft on the early morning tide 00:30 on 21st October. |
