BODC Cruise Metadata Report for RRS Challenger (74CH) cruise CH14B/80

Introduction

This report collates information from the BODC cruise inventory and oceanographic databases. It presents

Cruise Inventory Information

Long name RRS Challenger (74CH) cruise CH14B/80
Short name CH14B/80
Objectives and Narrative The objectives of this cruise were:
(1) To measure directional spectra of surface waves with an IOS cloverleaf buoy. Accomplished.
(2) To undertake precise bathymetric surveying west of South Uist. Accomplished.
(3) To service a current meter mooring at 57 deg 20.8 min N, 7 deg 39.5 min W. Mooring could not be located or recovered by dragging.
(4) To service a fouling experiment mooring near to this current meter mooring. New mooring deployed, but previous deployment lost.
(5) To work a CTD and oxygen/nutrients water bottle section from South Uist NW almost to 58N, 10W. Accomplished, but questions about whether the CTD had been damaged on the previous leg of the cruise.
