BODC Cruise Metadata Report for RRS Charles Darwin (74AB) cruise CD159

Introduction

This report collates information from the BODC cruise inventory and oceanographic databases. It presents

Cruise Inventory Information

Long name RRS Charles Darwin (74AB) cruise CD159
Short name CD159
Objectives and Narrative The objectives were twofold:
1. To obtain high-resolution sediment records through abrupt climate changes of the past 16,000 years.
2. To obtain sediment and water samples for calibration of palaeoceanographic proxies (e.g. delta18O and delta13C of planktonic and benthic foraminifera, Cd/Ca, Mg/Ca also for these species together with molecular genetic work on them).

Piston, Kasten and Box cores were obtained on the S.Iceland Rise, Gardar Drift, Irminger Sea, Eirik Drift and Labrador Sea.
Calibration samples (and CTD data) were obtained from sites of former current meter deployments, allowing calibration of sediment proxies for flow speed and other variables.
