Country Japan Longitude 129° 29.9' E

Contributor: Japan Ocean. Data Center, 5-3-1 Tukiji, Chuo-ku, Tokyo, Japan
Originator: Hydrographic Dept., Maritime Safety Agency, 3-1,Tsukiji, 5-Chome, Chuo-ku, Tokyo 104, Japan
Original Data: Analog
Instrument Type: FUESS (1965-1967), LFT-4 (1968-1980), LFT-5 (1981+)
Digitized Interval: Hourly
Present Data: Hourly, daily, and monthly values obtained by:
Hourly: Hourly spot reading
Daily: 119-point convolution filter (Bloomfield, 1976) centred on noon applied to the hourly data with respective periods of the 95, 50, and 5% amplitude points at 124.0, 60.2, and 40.2 hours
Monthly: Simple average of all daily values; calculated if 7 or fewer days are missing
Span of Data: 01 January 1965 - 22 December 1989
Gaps > 1 Month: 01 January - 31 Deceber 1975
Time Reference: GMT (hours 00-23)
Space-filler Flag: -9999
Units: Millimetres
Missing Data Flag: 99999
Reference Level: The data have been linked to tide staff zero by the contributors. However, further analysis of the data has lead to adjustments of the reference level in separate segments. The following adjustments were justified by obvious shifts in the hourly residuals. These adjustments are uncertain to a few centimetres.
Period ((hour)day/month/year) Value added to original (mm)
(15)31/12/67 - (14)29/02/68 -300
(02)06/03/72 - (06)12/03/72 300
Comment The daily or monthly means do not reveal any obvious reference level shifts and agree well with a neighboring station, Naha. Most questionable fluctuations are related to timing problems with the gauge. The station was relocated to latitude 28° 22.9' N, longitude 129° 29.8; E on 16 December 1980; however, the bench marks of the original and new locations have been linked by levelling.
