Definition of Rank

  • Rank 1 is a one-dimensional parameter
  • Rank 2 is a two-dimensional parameter
  • Rank 0 is a one-dimensional parameter describing the second dimension of a two-dimensional parameter (e.g. bin depths for moored ADCP data)

Narrative Documents

Valeport CTD 600

Background

The Valeport CTD 600 is designed for Continental Shelf operation and permits the accurate measurement of seawater Conductivity and Temperature against a Depth profile. The results obtained are applicable to many fields of scientific research. The meter is particularly suited to the obtaining of Temperature and Salinity profiles for the computation of the Speed of Sound through water, as required for the calibration of survey echo sounders and acoustic navigation systems.

RV Scotia 5/2001 CTD Data Documentation

Instrumentation

The instrument used was a Valeport 600 MK3 CTD.

Details of the sensors on the CTD are -

Manufacturer Sensor Serial No. Manufacturer Cal. Date
Valeport Pressure 751567 01 Mar 2001
Valeport Temperature 107P 01 Mar 2001
Valeport Conductivity P05056 01 Mar 2001

Pressure Sensor:

Tx range dBar 600
Set Range dBar 500

Valeport Calibration Certificate Number C12206

NOTE: These data have not had any calibrations applied. The CTD machine was used as supplied by the hirer. Comparisons of data collected nearby (notably station 204) by other institutes has show the data collected to be rather high. Therefore the salinity data should be used with caution.
