Definition of Rank

  • Rank 1 is a one-dimensional parameter
  • Rank 2 is a two-dimensional parameter
  • Rank 0 is a one-dimensional parameter describing the second dimension of a two-dimensional parameter (e.g. bin depths for moored ADCP data)

Problem Reports

No Problem Report Found in the Database

Data quality

The temperature channel is noisy throught the dataset and there is a sharp increase in values from start to finish.

Data Access Policy

Public domain data

These data have no specific confidentiality restrictions for users. However, users must acknowledge data sources as it is not ethical to publish data without proper attribution. Any publication or other output resulting from usage of the data should include an acknowledgment.

The recommended acknowledgment is

Narrative Documents

Vemco Minilog8 TR temperature logger

The VEMCO Minilog8-TR is a miniature data logger that records temperature at a user programmed time interval. It is housed in a waterproof cylinder and the temperature sensor is mounted on a protruding stainless steel probe.

Specifications

Memory 16 or 64k memory size, approximately 8000 readings stored in non-volatile Electrically Erasable Programmable Read Only Memory (EEPROM). Logging duration is between 1 second to 6 hours for up to 5 years depending on the logging interval.
Data Retention 20 years.
Temperature Range -5 to 40 °C; 0.1-0.2 °C resolution; ±0.2-0.3 °C accuracy with factory calibration.
Maximum Depth 680 m
Communication Link Infrared LED. No external connections are required. Full memory downloads in 3 to 6 minutes.
Battery Internal lithium battery with life of up to 5 years or up to 700- 1000 full deployments.

Further details can be found in the manufacturer's specification sheet.

BODC processing

The data were provided to BODC in ascii format and were transferred to qxf format by BODC produced Matlab transfer 136. The full data file contained only temperature data. This was mapped to the appropriate BODC parameter code.

Variable Units BODC parameter code Units Comments
Temperature deg C TEMPPR01 deg C -

Following the transfer the data was screened using the BODC in-house visualisation software, EDSERPLO. Any suspect data points were flagged with the appropriate BODC flag code.

Originator's data processing

The data from the Vemco Miniloggers were merged to form "pseudo" thermistor chain records prior to being supplied to BODC.

FRS applied the standard manufaturers' calibrations to all data, and produced ascii files for submission to BODC.

FRS moored Vemco Minilogger from Stonehaven

A moored Vemco minilogger was deployed by Fisheries Research Services (FRS) in Sonehaven (56.99783° N, 1.74783° W) on 22/05/01 as part of the Clupea 0701c cruise, and recovered on 10/10/01 by the Clupea 1401c cruise. The station had a nominal water depth of 75 m. The SonTek Argonaut had a sampling period of 12 minutes. The data were supplied as current meter records at depths of: Series 6661 at 1m, Series 6662 at 5 m, Series 6663 at 10 m, Series 6664 at 15 m, Series 6665 at 20 m, Series 6666 at 30 m, Series 6667 at 35 m, Series 6668 at 50 m.

The mooring consisted of the following instruments.
