Summary | The EU funded project Mediterranean Forecasting system towards environmental predictions (MFSTEP) main objective is to build the operational forecasting and observing system in the Mediterranean Sea. A ship of opportunity program, VOS work package providing XBT profiles to be assimilated in the basin forecasting model, sampled the Mediterranean upper thermocline thermal structure from September 2004 to July 2005. In the framework of this WP, XBT cruises are carried out along the VOS track Limassol - Port Said, in the SE Levantine Basin on board Cyprus VOS. A general repedition XBT cruise was carried out in late May 2004 (on board Princea Marissa of the Louis Cruise Lines). The XBT data are subject to QC procedures following the requirements of the MFSTEP project. |
