The aims of the project were to study the processes controlling the water exchange through the Danish straits (summarized below) and to establish an inventory of the water quality of the open Danish waters (the water quality data are held at the National Environmental Research Institute). Profiles: About 80 cruises were carried out each with CTD-profiles (temperature and salinity) taken at about 50 stations (appr. 2250 profiles in total). (Cruises under the Belt Project with mainly chemical and biological purposes are described in the data holdings of the National Environmental Research Institute). Also Nansen water samples were taken at selected stations and depths (appr. 1800 profiles taken). Time-series: About 24 current meter station with current meters at 1 - 5 different depths were managed - primarily in Great Belt. Eight tide gauge stations and two meteorological stations with self recording instruments were deployed. Eight TC-chains were recording in a few months of the project period.
