Description
Summary

The goal of the study was to examine biotic and abiotic factors which control phytoplankton species diversity in different temporal and spatial scales. Special emphasis was laid on studies of hydrophysical control mechanisms affecting species selection directly or through nutrients and on studies of grazer- mediated mechanisms. The high-resolution CTD measurements were carried out with the aim to study the role of meso-scale hydrophysical processes on the dynamics of marine ecosystem. The measurement campaign was performed at the entrance area of the Gulf of Finland in 1997 from July 14 to July 23. Overall 5 surveys were performed in the study area (1082 CTD profiles). The CTD data are quality controlled.
