Description
Summary

Seasonal and spatial distribution of meiobenthic faunal composition, abundance, biomass and diversity were investigated in the Aegean Sea during March 97, Sept. 97 and March 98. Quantitative samples (3 replicates) were collected from 6 stations in the South and 7 stations in the North Aegean Sea. Cores were sliced into 4 sediment layers: 0-1, 1-2, 2-4, 4-6 cm depth. Overall, data display significant differences between the meiofaunal community of the oligotrophic South and mesotrophic North Aegean Sea. This study was part of the multidisciplinary EU MAST III MTP II project MATER (contract MAS3-CT96-0051).
