The MEDATLAS project had the following objectives: to update the available data sets of temperature and salinity profiles measured in the Mediterranean Sea, to check the data Quality (QC) for scientific use according to the IOC and MAST recommendations, to merge the compiled data sets and update the climatological statistics with a resolution adapted to the Mediterranean space scales and to make available the numerical data on a user friendly medium. On the long term the project aimed to improve the data safeguarding, the data quality and to facilitate the preparation of the experimental and numerical scientific programmes. The MEDATLAS hydrological database has been created by a consortium of several data centres, including HNODC (Greece), IEO (Spain), SHOM and IFREMER (France) and ICES (Denmark).
