Discrete water samplers

Samples for the determination of chemical parameters were collected from depths down to 2500m by means of a General Oceanics Multisampler (12x8lt bottles) employed on a CTD. Sampling was carried out in order to determine the nutrients and dissolved oxygen at several numbers of stations near the Straits of the Cretan Arc. In addition, the influence of water circulation in straits on the distribution of the chemical parameters was investigated. The seasonal, interannual and shorter time scale variability of these chemical parameters were also related to the hydrodynamics of the region under investigation and the fluxes of nutrients along the straits, together with their seasonal variation, were estimated. The budgets of nutrients in the Aegean Sea were ultimately determined. A total of 203 station with dissolved oxygen and nutrients were held during PELAGOS fieldwork.
