Coastal waters around Greece (Saronikos Gulf, Amvrakikos Gulf, Gulf of Kavala, Navarino Bay, Geras Bay, Messologi Lagoon)

Various sampling projects as follows: During the period 1979-1983 benthic data were collected in Saronikos Gulf, within the framework of a research project funded by the General Secretariat of Research and Technology. Seasonal sampling took place at 7 sites to carry out phytobenthos studies. In September 1983 benthic data were collected in the Gulf of Kavala, within the framework of a research project funded by the Public Petroleum Corporation. Data were collected from 15 sites to carry out zoobenthos studies. During the period 1983-1984 benthic data were collected in Navarino Bay, within the framework of a research project funded by the Ministry of Maritime Commerce. The aim of the project was to investigate the effects of oil spill pollution in the area. Seasonal sampling took place at 20 sites for zoobenthos studies and at 3 sites for phytobenthos studies. During the period 1983-1986 benthic data were collected in Messologi Lagoons, within the framework of a research project funded by local authorities. The aim of the project was the environmental study of the area in order to make decisions on the protection and development of the area. Seasonal sampling took place at 16 sites for zoobenthos studies and at 6 sites for phytobenthos studies. In 1984 benthic data were collected in the Bay of Geras (Lesvos Island), within the framework of a research project funded by local authorities. The aim of the project was the ecological study of the area. Seasonal sampling took place at 10 sites for zoobenthos studies and at 4 sites for phytobenthos studies. During the period 1987-1989 benthic data were collected in Amvrakikos Gulf, within the framework of a project funded by local authorities. The aim of the project was to investigate the level of pollution of the area. Seasonal sampling took place at 12 sites for zoobenthos studies and at 7 sites for phytobenthos studies.
