The aim of the Project in the Aegean and Ionian Seas is to collect and monitor data on pollution parameters of the open sea waters of the Aegean and Ionian Seas. This effort is coupled with a physical, chemical and biological oceanographic study in order to provide information on the pollution transport mechanisms. A network of 30 sampling stations in the Aegean Sea and 8 in the Ionian Sea was visited twice a year till 1990. Hydrographic and nutrient data sets were collected at all standard depths while biological data were collected from the surface layer to the thermocline. Zooplankton was collected by vertical hauls. The hydrographic data include some current measurements.
