Data have been collected within the framework of national and international research projects, aiming at improving the existing knowledge of the quality of the marine environment. More specifically, nutrient and dissolved oxygen data have been used in order to estimate the degree of eutrophication caused by discharges of domestic wastes or effluent from industries, and consequently to enable the protection of the marine environment from pollution. Also, nutrient data together with other physical parameters have been used to provide assistance in determining water masses and water flows. The nutrient data set comprises measurements made in a dense grid of stations covering almost all the Hellenic embayments and open sea regions, at standard depths.
