Data holding centre | Scott Polar Research Institute |
Country | United Kingdom |
Time period | Unspecified; a number of cruises |
Ongoing | Yes |
Geographical area | Arctic Basin, mainly Eurasian Basin and Greenland Sea |
Observations | |
Parameters | Ice motion and related parameters; Side-scan sonar |
Instruments | Sidescan sonars; snow and ice samplers |
Description | |
Summary | The data set comprises echo-sounder readings from platform mounted instruments and includes ice draught distribution, lead distribution and pressure ridge distribution with an examination of pressure ridge cross- sectional features. The project examines the behaviour and distribution of sea ice in the Arctic Basin, including modelling the formation of pressure ridges and leads to a better understand the contribution of sea ice to climatic change with a view to monitoring such phenomena. |
