Description
Summary

Physicochemical parameters pertaining to the depletion rate of the air from gaseous pollutants by absorption into the sea water, and the equilibrium state of this absorption, are determined simultaneously by the reversed-flow gas chromatography technique. This comprises a gas chromatograph with a suitable detector, accommodating in its oven a specific sampling cell constructed out of glass and stainless steel chromatographic tubes of 1/4 inch diameter. A 'diffusion band' is obtained from which the calculation of the above mentioned parameters is achieved by theoretical analysis and specific computer programmes. The latter are based on statistical non-linear regression analysis, by means of which the pre-exponential factors and the exponential coefficients of a sum of two or three exponential functions of time are extracted from each diffusion band.
