Data are collecting through the operational oceanography monitoring buoy network that operates in the Greek Seas since 1999. The system is implemented in two phases: during the first implementation period the geographical coverage of the network was focused in the area of Aegean Sea while the measuring capabilities of the buoys were focused mainly on the surface layers (down to 50meters depth). During the second implementation period the network was geographically extended to cover also the Ionian Sea while buoys with deep monitoring capabilities (down to 1000 meters) were added to the network.
