Description
Summary

The wave model archive consists of hindcast fields of wind and waves produced during the operation of the atmospheric and wave model forecast suites. The Global Wave Model is a second generation model with fixed depth (200m), operating on a latitude/longitude grid; the energy input is provided by the wind fields defined by the Met. Office Atmospheric Model, and the wave energy is represented by 13 frequency bands within 16 directional bands. The analysed fields of wind and one-dimensional wave spectra have been archived, initially at 12-hour intervals and (from June 1988) at 6-hour intervals. The spatial resolution was 1.5 degrees latitude by 1.875 degrees longitude until June 1991; it then became 0.83 degrees latitude by 1.25 degrees longitude. Data can be made available at specified grid points as time series; normally integrated wave variables derived from the wave spectra are provided. Format description available from the Marine Advisory Service.
