Country | Iceland |
Project | Hydrographic conditions in Icelandic waters |
Time period | 1993-1997 |

Parameters | Salinity of the water column; Temperature of the water column |
Instruments | CTD; discrete water samplers |
Description | |
Summary | The aim of WOCE was to gather extensive and accurate data on ocean currents and hydrographic conditions and chemical processes through a five year period. The data shall be used in models on the hydrographic conditions of the sea and for ocean currents and their diversibility with the aim to use the models in connection with possible meteorological changes. The Nordic countries participated in the project as a group under the name Nordic-WOCE. The focused on the northern most part of the North-Atlantic, specifically the ocean around Iceland and the Faeroe Islands. The Icelandic research focused on two standard sections, one in the Greenland Strait, and the other one East of Iceland from the coast to about 6 degrees west. |
