The ICES Expedition Overflow 1960 was a multi-ship project to acquire a detailed distribution of temperature and salinity on the Iceland-Faroe Ridge and Faroe Bank Channel in order to observe and quantify the movement of Norwegian Sea Deep waters and Arctic Intermediate waters into the Central Atlantic Basin from the Norwegian Sea. Observations were collected in regimented form on a fixed grid. A total of 1154 stations make up this dataset, including 354 stations with chemical observations. Six countries involving 9 research ships participated in the project, viz Denmark, Germany, Iceland, Norway, UK, and the USSR.
