Overflow '73 was an elaboration of the earlier ICES Overflow '60 Expedition. Unlike Overflow '60, Overflow '73 was fairly loosely coordinated so far as the details of each ships programme was concerned. Each ship however worked a pre-selected area undertaking a broad programme of physical Oceanographic Research. Overflow '73 was one of the first international projects to make extensive use of automatic recording current meters. The data in this dataset consists of 683 station observations worked by 9 of the ships which participated in the project. The countries participating in the project were Canada, Denmark, Germany, Iceland, Norway, UK, and the USSR. Full details of all the ship observations can be obtained from the ICES Roscop database. These details include information on the final disposition of the data types not available from ICES.
