The dataset consists of CTD/water bottle data collected by the Ocean Weather Ship (OWS) programme in the North Atlantic. This programme was conducted mainly in the 1950s, 1960s, 1970s, and early 1980s. It presently consists of only the OWS M which is stationed in the Norwegian Sea. Many of the data in this programme were compiled by the ICES Service Hydrographique, but data available from here additionally includes data sets that were compiled by NODC in Washington, USA. These latter data may not be specifically data collected by the Weather Ships, but have been compiled from data available in the region of the Weather Ships.
