Description | |
Summary | The pilot study of petroleum hydrocarbons (PHCs) in sediments of the Gulf of Riga has been started in 2001. According to ICES/HELCOM recommendation (EC MON 4/99, INF. 14/Item 4.1) strategy of sampling was polygon sampling in common with heavy metals. The measurements were performed within marine monitoring program by national responsible bodies. Sampling was done using research vessel 'Antonija' once a year. Sediment samples were collected using Veen grab. After sampling top 5 cm of sediments was immediately frozen (-18 C), and freeze-dried in lab. Sample extractions were done according US EPA-3550B and US EPA-3630C. Extracts were analysed by GC/MS (US EPA-8270C) and HPLC/PDA (LVS ISO 13877:1998). All results are transferred to dry weight. |
